Tom Montag is a Wisconsin poet, essayist, and author of the memoir Curlew: Home and two books containing his creative nonfiction, Kissing Poetry’s Sister and The Idea of the Local. He has previously taught Creative Nonfiction for Lakeland College, Sheboygan, and “Writing the Lean Poem” and “Creative Nonfiction” for The Mill: A Writer’s Place. He was a Founding Contributing Editor for The Pushcart Prize in 1976. During the mid- to late-1970s he wrote about half a million words in feature stories, many of them profiles, for The Fox River Patriot. His poem “Lecturing My Daughter” has been incorporated into the design of the Convention Center in Milwaukee (2nd floor, east hallway). In 2005, he was the Tom McGrath Visiting Writer at University of Minnesota-Moorhead. He is most recently the author of In This Place: Selected Poems 1982-2013; This Wrecked World; and The Miles No One Wants.
